The Outreach Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, in collaboration with Zonal Education, Thenmaradchi zone and World Vision Lanka organized the Workshop on “Climate-SMART-Agriculture” at the Auditorium, Farm Unit, and tissue culture lab of department of Agricultural Biology and Cut Model Lab of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi on 31 July 2026, from 8:40 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with financial support fromWorld Vision Lanka. Workshop on “Organic Fertilizer Production”

Based on the success of last year's composting workshop and competition and the continued requests from farmers and entrepreneurs, the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, together with the Outreach Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, organized the Organic Fertilizer Production: Composting and Vermicomposting programme in 2026 with financial support from JICA PRECIDA-University of Jaffna. The programme consists of four phases: (1) a one-day training workshop, (2) field evaluation of the composting competition, (3) laboratory analysis of selected compost samples, and (4) an awards and recognition ceremony. An Expression of Interest (EOI) was invited through a Google Form, and participation was limited to 50 participants. Prof. G. Mikunthan, Former Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA), University of Jaffna, who served as the resource person for the workshop. Kasthuri, Lecturer (Prob.), Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, participated in a two-week international training program on Digital and Geospatial Technologies for Agricultural Monitoring and Decision Support, held at the world-renowned International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, India, from 9–20 March 2026. She received this opportunity under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scholarship awarded through the Consulate General of India in Jaffna.
