The certificate awarding ceremony of the two certificate courses titled "Mushroom Production & Processing Technology, and Vermi-Technology" offered by the Department of Agricultural Biology of the Faculty of Agriculture was held on 21st of May 2022 at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ariviyal Nagar Kilinochchi. The awarding ceremony commenced at 1.00 pm with the lighting of traditional oil lamp by the chief guest Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna. The ceremony was preceded by Dr. K. Pakeerathan, course coordinator and head of the department of Agricultural Biology. International Conference on Dry Zone Agriculture-2022 (ICDA-2022) was held on 14th of September 2022 at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi with the theme of “Emerging Appropriate Agro-technologies Towards Food Sustainability”, as a satellite conference of JUICe-2022. The aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity to the local and international scientists, researchers and graduate students from multifaceted applied sciences disciplines to disseminate their research findings, share ideas and experiences. A traditional paddy harvesting day was organized by the faculty at Integrated farm and training centre, Parasankulum, Puliyankulum on 09th February 2022.    Vice-Chancellor Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah has graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. N .Kannan obtained an outstanding doctoral thesis award for his excellent PhD research in the field of environmental engineering at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia. He completed his PhD successfully in 2020 with a thesis titled, customized hydrochar from biomass materials for water treatment. He made a comprehensive evaluation of biomass conversion into hydrochar using hydrothermal carbonization process. He used novel isotherm, kinetic, chemometric and thermodynamic techniques for studying adsorption mechanism of pollutants by an engineered hydrochar. In addition, he has successfully developed a techno-economic model for the hydrothermal conversion of biomass in an eco-friendly manner using Aspen Plus modelling tool.
